SUMMARY:Community Screen-printing Session for International Women's Day
DESCRIPTION:Pomona & District Community House (PCH) are inviting everyone to come along on Saturday\, 7 March to a community screen-printing session for International Women’s Day and Qld Women’s Week.  What we wear can share how we care. \nInternational Women’s Day 2026  \nDid you know there are two different #tags for International Women’s Day – we just found out.   \n#BalanceTheScales is UN Women Australia’s 2026 theme and is tied to Commission of the Status for Women\, focusing on structural and systemic barriers. It’s a social movement. \n#GiveToGain 2026 them from a private for-profit website corporation. \n“The key message overall is a promise to every woman and girl – regardless of background or identity – that they should be safe\, heard and free to shape their own lives. Yet in 2026\, discriminatory laws\, policies and practices persist. Gender-based violence remains widespread\, and structural barriers block too many from seeking or receiving justice. \nThese barriers are not inevitable. They are built and they can be dismantled. Equity is not about advantage for some; it’s about dignity\, safety\, and fairness for all. [it’s about collaboration & working together] \nWhen women and girls stand equal\, families are stronger\, workplaces are fairer\, communities thrive\, and society becomes safer for everyone.” (https://www.iwd.net.au/) \nBring along your own light coloured fabric t-shirt or tote bag\, and the PCH team will help you screenprint it.  They’ll have pre-set screens of key messages or you can cut your own stencil design to show the women in our community that they are valued.  They’ll also have pre-screened t-shirts and bracelets available for a small donation that goes towards the Mummas Village program.  The Social 12-17yrs crew are also making muffins! \nThe recent figures published in the Qld government’s ‘Women’s Economic Security and Wellbeing Report 2025‘ are distressing. Record numbers of women are facing homelessness\, with those over 55 years being the fastest growing cohort\, and gender pay gaps are leaving women vulnerable to cost of living pressures. Sadly\, there are unprecedented rates of domestic and family violence which is disproportionately impacting the safety of women and girls; and yes it is happening here in our community. \nPCH know the hinterland communities care and believe that together we can find ways for our villages to be places where all are safe and all can thrive.  Drop by\, say hi and be part of the solution. \nResearch shows that healthy relationship education helps in reducing gender-based violence. PCH are running free workshops for tweens/teens\, and for adults raising teens.
