DESCRIPTION:Pomona & District Community House (PCH) are inviting everyone to come along on Saturday\, 7 March to a community screen-printing session for International Women’s Day and Qld Women’s Week.  What we wear can share how we care. \nInternational Women’s Day 2026  \nDid you know there are two different #tags for International Women’s Day – we just found out.   \n#BalanceTheScales is UN Women Australia’s 2026 theme and is tied to Commission of the Status for Women\, focusing on structural and systemic barriers. It’s a social movement. \n#GiveToGain 2026 them from a private for-profit website corporation. \n“The key message overall is a promise to every woman and girl – regardless of background or identity – that they should be safe\, heard and free to shape their own lives. Yet in 2026\, discriminatory laws\, policies and practices persist. Gender-based violence remains widespread\, and structural barriers block too many from seeking or receiving justice. \nThese barriers are not inevitable. They are built and they can be dismantled. Equity is not about advantage for some; it’s about dignity\, safety\, and fairness for all. [it’s about collaboration & working together] \nWhen women and girls stand equal\, families are stronger\, workplaces are fairer\, communities thrive\, and society becomes safer for everyone.” (https://www.iwd.net.au/) \nBring along your own light coloured fabric t-shirt or tote bag\, and the PCH team will help you screenprint it.  They’ll have pre-set screens of key messages or you can cut your own stencil design to show the women in our community that they are valued.  They’ll also have pre-screened t-shirts and bracelets available for a small donation that goes towards the Mummas Village program.  The Social 12-17yrs crew are also making muffins! \nThe recent figures published in the Qld government’s ‘Women’s Economic Security and Wellbeing Report 2025‘ are distressing. Record numbers of women are facing homelessness\, with those over 55 years being the fastest growing cohort\, and gender pay gaps are leaving women vulnerable to cost of living pressures. Sadly\, there are unprecedented rates of domestic and family violence which is disproportionately impacting the safety of women and girls; and yes it is happening here in our community. \nPCH know the hinterland communities care and believe that together we can find ways for our villages to be places where all are safe and all can thrive.  Drop by\, say hi and be part of the solution. \nResearch shows that healthy relationship education helps in reducing gender-based violence. PCH are running free workshops for tweens/teens\, and for adults raising teens. This will lay the foundations for a healthy and loving attitude towards both her own body and her emerging sexuality.  This is such a beautiful and powerful day for your daughters\, the information presented will be foundational and also empowering\, setting them up for some healthy ways of feeling\, thinking and behaving in their future intimate relationships.\n\nBody Positivity: Media Myths & Diversity\nBody Autonomy: Consent & Communication\nEmpowered Anatomy: Knowledge & Self Connection\n\n\nPlease Note: \n\nThe workshop is for all those identifying as daughters aged 11-13 years.\nThis is not an explicit workshop about sex\, but it will lay important foundations for healthy sexual relating in the future.\nThe information will be delivered in a fun\, palatable\, age appropriate and gentle way.\nThe workshop will be structured around “practical tools” for your daughter to use (mindset\, communication\, emotional regulation).\nThe workshop will be phone-free (Natalie will have a basket where she collects and store devices at the beginning and they can check their phones in the break if they need to).\n\nThere will be three parts: \n\nMindset tools – we will look at the effects of the media on how we feel\, and we will begin to teach critical thinking (aka Body positivity\, media myths and diversity) This is important in this day and age of increased social media everything we see can be manipulated digitally and consequently that which isn’t normal becomes normalised.\nCommunication tools – we will look at lots of ways to say “No” in tricky (non- sexual) situations with your friends and family (aka Body autonomy\, consent and communication). This is important because it is one thing knowing that something doesn’t feel right\, yet it is a whole nother thing having the tools to know what to say in response.\nEmbodiment tools – we will look at the proper female anatomy and the role our biology/nervous system has with regards to our emotions and feeling safe in our body\, and trusting its signals (aka Empowered anatomy\, pleasure and self connection). This is important because when your daughter has knowledge of\, and confidence in\, her own body she knows that she is the source of her own power and she is less likely to outsource it to others.\n\nThere will be an opportunity for anonymous Q&A at the end of the workshop. If any concerns arise\, I will follow up with you in a reflection email sent to all parents. \n(The workshop focuses on female born bodies) \nParent/caregiver pre-workshop evening – Wednesday\, 11 March November 6pm-7pm \nIn the parent/caregiver evening Natalie briefly covers the material to be presented to the children during the workshop. She will answer any of your questions\, and share a stack of resources with you\, including some of her collection of books that may be helpful for you and your child. \nNot only is it so important (life changingly important) to teach our kids the things they need to know BEFORE they need to know them\, but also we need to give them opportunities to practice the tools. It is Natalie’s intention that these workshops are a safe and fun space to practice and become familiar with the words and tools they can use when and if they need to. \nAbout the Presenter \nNatalie Stockell is an educator\, mum of two\, and advocate for positive\, inclusive sex education. She founded Tell Your Daughters to address the gaps she saw in school-based sex ed and now delivers engaging\, age-appropriate workshops for tweens\, teens\, and their parents. With a Master’s in Psychology and a calm\, compassionate presence\, Natalie combines evidence-based knowledge with deep empathy to support young people as they navigate consent\, relationships\, and online life. \nAlongside her work with Tell Your Daughters\, Natalie works with Women’s Health and Equality Queensland (WHEQ)\, where she co-designs and facilitates sex education workshops and resources for women\, girls\, and gender-diverse people. Her work at WHEQ also spans broader health promotion initiatives focused on mental health\, respectful relationships\, and gender equality. \nWhat to tell your Daughter \nThis isn’t specifically sex ed\, and telling any tween/teen they are going to a sex ed workshop is going to feel awkward for them. So simply telling your child they are going to a “Tools for teens” workshop is enough. If they want more information it is up to you what you tell them\, you could say there will be some talk about the messages from the media\, and also how to deal with sticky conversations with your friends\, that type of thing. They might feel more comfortable going with a friend so please let any other parent/caregiver of your daughter’s friends know about this workshop date. \nNatalie’s primary goals for the workshop are that the girls have fun\, and they feel comfortable with her and the content.
