DESCRIPTION:Bookings essential. Limited places. \nIn this free workshop your daughter will learn that her body is unique\, it is her own\, and it is powerful. This will lay the foundations for a healthy and loving attitude towards both her own body and her emerging sexuality. \nThis is such a beautiful and powerful day for your daughters\, the information presented will be foundational and also empowering\, setting them up for some healthy ways of feeling\, thinking and behaving in their future intimate relationships. \n\nBody Positivity: Media Myths & Diversity\nBody Autonomy: Consent & Communication\nEmpowered Anatomy: Knowledge & Self Connection\n\nPlease Note: \n\nThe workshop is for all those identifying as daughters aged 11-13 years.\nThis is not an explicit workshop about sex\, but it will lay important foundations for healthy sexual relating in the future.\nThe information will be delivered in a fun\, palatable\, age appropriate and gentle way.\nThe workshop will be structured around “practical tools” for your daughter to use (mindset\, communication\, emotional regulation).\nThe workshop will be phone-free (Natalie will have a basket where she collects and store devices at the beginning and they can check their phones in the break if they need to).\n\nThere will be three parts: \n\nMindset tools – we will look at the effects of the media on how we feel\, and we will begin to teach critical thinking (aka Body positivity\, media myths and diversity) This is important in this day and age of increased social media everything we see can be manipulated digitally and consequently that which isn’t normal becomes normalised.\nCommunication tools – we will look at lots of ways to say “No” in tricky (non- sexual) situations with your friends and family (aka Body autonomy\, consent and communication). This is important because it is one thing knowing that something doesn’t feel right\, yet it is a whole nother thing having the tools to know what to say in response.\nEmbodiment tools – we will look at the proper female anatomy and the role our biology/nervous system has with regards to our emotions and feeling safe in our body\, and trusting its signals (aka Empowered anatomy\, pleasure and self connection). This is important because when your daughter has knowledge of\, and confidence in\, her own body she knows that she is the source of her own power and she is less likely to outsource it to others.\n\nThere will be an opportunity for anonymous Q&A at the end of the workshop. If any concerns arise\, I will follow up with you in a reflection email sent to all parents. \n(The workshop focuses on female born bodies) \nParent/carer pre-workshop evening – Thursday\, 6 November 6pm-7pm \nIn the parent/carer evening Natalie briefly covers the material to be presented to the children during the workshop. She will answer any of your questions\, and share a stack of resources with you\, including some of her collection of books that may be helpful for you and your child. \nNot only is it so important (life changingly important) to teach our kids the things they need to know BEFORE they need to know them\, but also we need to give them opportunities to practice the tools. It is Natalie’s intention that these workshops are a safe and fun space to practice and become familiar with the words and tools they can use when and if they need to. \nAbout the Presenter \nNatalie Stockell is an educator\, mum of two\, and advocate for positive\, inclusive sex education. She founded Tell Your Daughters to address the gaps she saw in school-based sex ed and now delivers engaging\, age-appropriate workshops for tweens\, teens\, and their parents. With a Master’s in Psychology and a calm\, compassionate presence\, Natalie combines evidence-based knowledge with deep empathy to support young people as they navigate consent\, relationships\, and online life. \nAlongside her work with Tell Your Daughters\, Natalie works with Women’s Health and Equality Queensland (WHEQ)\, where she co-designs and facilitates sex education workshops and resources for women\, girls\, and gender-diverse people. Her work at WHEQ also spans broader health promotion initiatives focused on mental health\, respectful relationships\, and gender equality. \nWhat to tell your Daughter \nThis isn’t specifically sex ed\, and telling any tween/teen they are going to a sex ed workshop is going to feel awkward for them. So simply telling your child they are going to a “Tools for teens” workshop is enough. If they want more information it is up to you what you tell them\, you could say there will be some talk about the messages from the media\, and also how to deal with sticky conversations with your friends\, that type of thing. They might feel more comfortable going with a friend so please let any other parent/carer of your daughter’s friends know about this workshop date. \nNatalie’s primary goals for the workshop are that the girls have fun\, and they feel comfortable with her and the content. Her secondary goals are that they leave feeling like their voice matters\, their ‘No” is valid\, and they know their body is both normal and powerful. \nThanks to our Funder\nNeighbourhood Centres Qld – Queensland Women and Girls’ Health Promotion Community Seed Funding. Neighbourhood Centres Qld is the peak body for Neighbourhood Centres in Queensland. DESCRIPTION:A chance for those into Lego to come together.  Lego Club is for adults to 8 year olds. Parents/carers need to be present for those 8-16yrs and know you’ll be building 🙂 \nLego Club is about fun\, sharing\, and learning from each other.  A great chance for the generations to share their Lego skills! \nLego Club March to July has a great project to get the imagination going.  Les and Mitch from Pomona Newsagency are letting us create a Lego window display! The display’s theme will be inspired by Pomona Family Fun Day – think fairy floss\, rides\, parade floats\, and more. \nWe know many of you know how to build parade floats as we saw your amazing builds at last year’s Pomona Family Fun Day community Lego builds with Andrew and Damian from\nLego Masters. Keep an eye out on the newsagency window in July. \nThen in August\, we’ll regroup to the monthly build challenges\, etc.  But know you are always welcome to just come build and share space with other Lego lovers. \nSee you at the Lego pits. \nA note: we’re aware everyone has lots going on and you may be rushing back from work. The club will be operating for 2 hours from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.  If you’re running a bit late\, that’s ok still come\, just be aware your fellow Lego makers will be in the zone and you may not have the same amount of time. SUMMARY:Adolescent Allies: Parenting Beyond Childhood
DESCRIPTION:Parenting in the teen years can be both rewarding and challenging\, and often caregivers are juggling busy lives with work\, and have less access to the supportive playgroups available when children are younger. \nIt can feel like a strange new landscape as your child experiences the developmental changes of adolescence. This may mean navigating how to teach what safe respectful relationships are\, school refusal\, youth mental health\, access to drugs and alcohol\, self-harm or other concerns that surface at this stage of life. Along with how to support and grow ‘the sparks’ of your teenager’s self to see them thrive. \nAdolescent Allies is a new monthly group facilitated by PCH Community Support Worker\, Miatta. It is a safe supported space for parents and caregivers of teens in our community\, to connect\, reflect and share on parenting in this transition time to adulthood. It is about growing local level community support and connection for parenting. \nIf you have a young person (12-25yr) they are welcome to attend The Social or the Young People Drop-In space (3-6pm) while you are at the group. \nBabes in arms are welcome if necessary\, otherwise this is a child free group space to allow discussion of adult themes as needed. \nLight snacks provided from 4pm ready for a 4:30pm start. \nUseful Links: \n\nReachOut for Parents and Carers. parents.au.reachout.com\nParentline – telephone support service with online information available and web chat counselling 8am-9pm 7 days a week. parentline.com.au\nRaisingchildren.net.au – The Australian Parenting Website support services for families of teens raisingchildren.net/grown-ups/services-support/
