SUMMARY:Adolescent Allies: Parenting Beyond Childhood
DESCRIPTION:Parenting in the teen years can be both rewarding and challenging\, and often caregivers are juggling busy lives with work\, and have less access to the supportive playgroups available when children are younger. \nIt can feel like a strange new landscape as your child experiences the developmental changes of adolescence. This may mean navigating how to teach what safe respectful relationships are\, school refusal\, youth mental health\, access to drugs and alcohol\, self-harm or other concerns that surface at this stage of life. Along with how to support and grow ‘the sparks’ of your teenager’s self to see them thrive. \nAdolescent Allies is a new monthly group facilitated by PCH Community Support Worker\, Miatta. It is a safe supported space for parents and caregivers of teens in our community\, to connect\, reflect and share on parenting in this transition time to adulthood. Parents/carers need to be present for those 8-16yrs and know you’ll be building 🙂 \nLego Club is about fun\, sharing\, and learning from each other.  A great chance for the generations to share their Lego skills! \nLego Club March to July has a great project to get the imagination going.  Les and Mitch from Pomona Newsagency are letting us create a Lego window display! The display’s theme will be inspired by Pomona Family Fun Day – think fairy floss\, rides\, parade floats\, and more. \nWe know many of you know how to build parade floats as we saw your amazing builds at last year’s Pomona Family Fun Day community Lego builds with Andrew and Damian from\nLego Masters. Keep an eye out on the newsagency window in July. \nThen in August\, we’ll regroup to the monthly build challenges\, etc.  But know you are always welcome to just come build and share space with other Lego lovers. \nSee you at the Lego pits. \nA note: we’re aware everyone has lots going on and you may be rushing back from work. The club will be operating for 2 hours from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.  If you’re running a bit late\, that’s ok still come\, just be aware your fellow Lego makers will be in the zone and you may not have the same amount of time. It helps identify issues like poor blood flow\, nerve problems\, or skin changes\, especially for people at risk of foot complications. Screening also ensures timely referral to community or high-risk foot podiatrists. We can refer to our community podiatrist located in Buderim or Gympie for further assessment.\nWhat are common foot complications?\nCommon foot pathologies including neurological disorders\, bone and joint disorders\, endocrine and vascular conditions that increase the risk of trauma to the feet e.g.\, due to a loss of sensation\, skin changes\, ulceration\, infection\, and deformity. People living with diabetes are more prone to ulceration and infection\, especially when circulatory and/or neurological status is compromised.\nWhat is a blood flow assessment?\nA blood flow assessment of the pedal pulses involves checking the pulses in your feet to see how well blood is circulating. The foot care nurse gently feels for the pulses in specific areas\, such as the top of the foot (dorsalis pedis) and near the ankle (posterior tibial). This helps identify any issues with blood flow to the feet.\nWhat is a sensory examination?\nA monofilament sensory examination is a simple test used to check the feeling (sensation) in your feet. The foot care nurse gently presses a thin\, flexible nylon filament against specific areas of your foot to see if you can feel it. This test helps detect nerve damage\, especially in people with diabetes or other conditions that can affect foot sensation.\nWhat about my Diabetes Risk Assessment?\nThe Australian Type 2 Diabetes Risk Assessment Tool (AUSDRISK) is a free and useful way to assess a person’s risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. We help individuals to understand their risk level. We offer support and education for all types of diabetes!\nOur program includes qualified Diabetes Educators.
