SUMMARY:Tools for Tweens & Teens 12-14 years - Tell your Sons
DESCRIPTION:In this free workshop\, your son will gain tools to foster a healthy attitude toward his body\, his masculinity\, and to develop a positive mindset about his emerging maturity.  This workshop is a wonderful opportunity for boys to gain valuable knowledge and skills that will empower them as they navigate relationships and the growing understanding of their own bodies. The focus will be on laying a strong foundation for healthy emotional\, mental\, and relational development. \n\nMindful Masculinity: Media Myths and Pressures\nBody Autonomy: Consent and Communication\nEmpowered Anatomy: Knowledge and Self Connection\n\nPlease note: \n\nThis workshop is those identifying as sons aged 12-14 years.\nThis workshop is not focused on explicit discussions about sex but will provide important foundations for healthy emotional and relational skills in the future.\nThe information will be delivered in a fun\, age-appropriate\, and gentle manner.\nThe workshop will be structured around “practical tools” for your son to use (mindset\, communication\, emotional regulation).\nThe workshop will be phone-free (phones will be collected and stored in a basket\, and participants can check them during breaks if needed).\n\nThere will be three key parts to the workshop: \n\nMindset Tools – We will explore the impact of media on self-perception and build critical thinking skills\, we will be focusing on the concept of the “man box” – this refers to a set of societal expectations and stereotypes about masculinity that pressure men to behave in certain ways in order to conform to traditional ideas of what it means to be a man. This is important because with increased exposure to social media\, boys are often faced with distorted images of masculinity and unrealistic expectations. We’ll address how to maintain a healthy mindset amidst these pressures. And discuss ways to break free from the “man box” and to embrace authentic and healthy ways of expressing themselves.\nCommunication Tools – We will discuss healthy ways to express\, and receive\, “No” in challenging (non-sexual) situations with friends and family. This is important because it’s crucial to recognise when something doesn’t feel right \,and to have the language and confidence to both communicate and be mindful of boundaries in a respectful and assertive way.\nEmbodiment Tools – We will learn about both male and female anatomy and discuss how biology and the nervous system influences our emotions. This is important because understanding how the body works and how to listen to its signals is empowering. This knowledge helps boys trust their instincts\, manage emotions\, and develop a sense of inner strength.\n\nThere will be an opportunity for anonymous Q&A at the end of the workshop. If any concerns arise\, I will follow up with you in a reflection email sent to all parents. \n(The workshop focuses on male born bodies) \nParent/caregiver pre-workshop evening – Wednesday\, 18 March 6pm-7pm \nIn the parent/caregiver evening Natalie briefly covers the material to be presented to the children during the workshop. She will answer any of your questions\, and share a stack of resources with you\, including some of her collection of books that may be helpful for you and your child. \nNot only is it so important (life changingly important) to teach our kids the things they need to know BEFORE they need to know them\, but also we need to give them opportunities to practice the tools. It is Natalie’s intention that these workshops are a safe and fun space to practice and become familiar with the words and tools they can use when and if they need to. \nAbout the Presenter \nNatalie Stockell is an educator\, mum of two\, and advocate for positive\, inclusive sex education. She founded Tell Your Daughters to address the gaps she saw in school-based sex ed and now delivers engaging\, age-appropriate workshops for tweens\, teens\, and their parents. With a Master’s in Psychology and a calm\, compassionate presence\, Natalie combines evidence-based knowledge with deep empathy to support young people as they navigate consent\, relationships\, and online life. \nAlongside her work with Tell Your Daughters\, Natalie works with Women’s Health and Equality Queensland (WHEQ)\, where she co-designs and facilitates sex education workshops and resources for women\, girls\, and gender-diverse people. Her work at WHEQ also spans broader health promotion initiatives focused on mental health\, respectful relationships\, and gender equality. \nWhat to tell your Son \nThis isn’t specifically sex ed\, and telling any tween/teen they are going to a sex ed workshop is going to feel awkward for them. So simply telling your child they are going to a “Tools for teens” workshop is enough. If they want more information it is up to you what you tell them\, you could say there will be some talk about the messages from the media\, and also how to deal with sticky conversations with your friends\, that type of thing. They might feel more comfortable going with a friend so please let any other parent/caregiver of your son’s friends know about this workshop date. \nNatalie’s primary goals for the workshop are that the boys have fun\, and they feel comfortable with her and the content. SUMMARY:Adolescent Allies: Parenting Beyond Childhood
DESCRIPTION:Some of the challenges that come with parenting tweens and teenagers can feel tough and overwhelming at times. Families may be navigating struggles with school attendance\, body image\, social media use (despite the ban!)\, alcohol or other drug use\, or changes in behaviour. Our “babies” are growing up—moving through puberty\, shifting friendships\,\nand sometimes forming intimate relationships—while parents and caregivers are often juggling work\, volunteering\, caring responsibilities\, and the needs of other children. \nThis is where Adolescent Allies comes in! A fortnightly group for parents and caregivers who are parenting beyond childhood. Adolescent Allies come together for social connection\, with a sprinkle of conversations about topics relevant to this age and stage of parenting. Supported by a Community Support Worker\, the aim of Adolescent Allies is\, to recognise the importance of staying connected to ourselves and to our young people during this important stage of development. Adolescent Allies creates space for parents to reflect\, share\, and strengthen their capacity to be steady\, compassionate allies to the adults their children are becoming—so no one has to navigate this season alone. \nCome to share a nibble and a cuppa and stay for conversations. DESCRIPTION:In this free workshop your daughter will learn all about healthy relating – both relating to herself\, her emerging sexual identity\, and relating to others – the people she may feel attracted to or attraction from. \n\nEmpowered Relating: Consent & Communication\nSafe Relating: Contraception & Connection\nHealthy Relating: Red Flags & Green Flags\n\nPlease Note: \n\nThe workshop is for all those identifying as daughters aged 14-16 years.\nThis workshop will contain specific information about sexual activity\, sexual identity and sexual relating.\nThe information will be delivered in a fun\, age appropriate\, palatable\, and gentle way.\nThe workshop will be structured around “practical tools” for your daughter to use (mindset\, communication\, emotional regulation).\nThe workshop will be phone-free (Natalie will have a basket where she collects and store devices at the beginning and they can check their phones in the break if they need to).\n\nThere will be three parts: \n\nCommunication tools – we will look at what consent really means when it comes to sexual situations and how to confidently and cringe-free advocate for safe sex (aka Healthy relating\, consent and communication) This is important because while most teens today have a basic understanding of consent they also need opportunities to practice communicating it in a safe environment.\nEmbodiment tools – we will cover sexual anatomy and how to keep sex safe with regards to both contraception and also feeling safe in our body\, and trusting it’s signals (aka Safe relating\, contraception and connection) This is important because when your daughter has knowledge of\, and confidence in\, her own body she knows that she is the source of her own power and she is less likely to outsource it to others.\nRelationship tools – we will look at relationship red flags and green flags\, and cover strategies for dealing with red flags across both digital and in-person relating (Aka Healthy relating – red flags and green flags) This is important because when we teach our daughters to recognize potential warning signs in relationships they are able make informed decisions about their well-being and safety.\n\nThere will be an opportunity for anonymous Q&A at the end. If anything of concern comes up during the workshop Natalie will feedback to you afterwards in my reflection email to all parents. \n(The workshop focuses on female born bodies) \nParent/caregiver pre-workshop evening – Wednesday\, 11 March 7pm-8pm \nIn the parent/caregiver evening Natalie briefly covers the material to be presented to the children during the workshop. She will answer any of your questions\, and share a stack of resources with you\, including some of her collection of books that may be helpful for you and your child. \nNot only is it so important (life changingly important) to teach our kids the things they need to know BEFORE they need to know them\, but also we need to give them opportunities to practice the tools. Her work at WHEQ also spans broader health promotion initiatives focused on mental health\, respectful relationships\, and gender equality. \nWhat to tell your Daughter \nThis isn’t specifically sex ed\, and telling any tween/teen they are going to a sex ed workshop is going to feel awkward for them. So simply telling your child they are going to a “Tools for teens” workshop is enough. If they want more information it is up to you what you tell them\, you could say there will be some talk about the messages from the media\, and also how to deal with sticky conversations with your friends\, that type of thing. They might feel more comfortable going with a friend so please let any other parent/caregiver of your daughter’s friends know about this workshop date. \nNatalie’s primary goals for the workshop are that the girls have fun\, and they feel comfortable with her and the content. This will lay the foundations for a healthy and loving attitude towards both her own body and her emerging sexuality.  This is such a beautiful and powerful day for your daughters\, the information presented will be foundational and also empowering\, setting them up for some healthy ways of feeling\, thinking and behaving in their future intimate relationships.\n\nBody Positivity: Media Myths & Diversity\nBody Autonomy: Consent & Communication\nEmpowered Anatomy: Knowledge & Self Connection\n\n\nPlease Note: \n\nThe workshop is for all those identifying as daughters aged 11-13 years.\nThis is not an explicit workshop about sex\, but it will lay important foundations for healthy sexual relating in the future.\nThe information will be delivered in a fun\, palatable\, age appropriate and gentle way.\nThe workshop will be structured around “practical tools” for your daughter to use (mindset\, communication\, emotional regulation).\nThe workshop will be phone-free (Natalie will have a basket where she collects and store devices at the beginning and they can check their phones in the break if they need to).\n\nThere will be three parts: \n\nMindset tools – we will look at the effects of the media on how we feel\, and we will begin to teach critical thinking (aka Body positivity\, media myths and diversity) This is important in this day and age of increased social media everything we see can be manipulated digitally and consequently that which isn’t normal becomes normalised.\nCommunication tools – we will look at lots of ways to say “No” in tricky (non- sexual) situations with your friends and family (aka Body autonomy\, consent and communication). This is important because it is one thing knowing that something doesn’t feel right\, yet it is a whole nother thing having the tools to know what to say in response.\nEmbodiment tools – we will look at the proper female anatomy and the role our biology/nervous system has with regards to our emotions and feeling safe in our body\, and trusting its signals (aka Empowered anatomy\, pleasure and self connection). This is important because when your daughter has knowledge of\, and confidence in\, her own body she knows that she is the source of her own power and she is less likely to outsource it to others.\n\nThere will be an opportunity for anonymous Q&A at the end of the workshop. So simply telling your child they are going to a “Tools for teens” workshop is enough. If they want more information it is up to you what you tell them\, you could say there will be some talk about the messages from the media\, and also how to deal with sticky conversations with your friends\, that type of thing. They might feel more comfortable going with a friend so please let any other parent/caregiver of your daughter’s friends know about this workshop date. \nNatalie’s primary goals for the workshop are that the girls have fun\, and they feel comfortable with her and the content.
