DESCRIPTION:Pixels and perspectives: Teen strategies for navigating p*rn and healthy relationships in 2026. \nThis free engaging workshop uses a media literacy approach\, which means participants explore different viewpoints and learn to think critically about the information they encounter\, as well as their own opinions. The workshop aims to give teens the tools to analyse media and messages carefully\, while also promoting healthy relationships\, sexual consent\, respect\, and personal safety. \nThe group format teaches teens to deconstruct media\, and to make informed choices about what they may want to view\, and why they want to view it. \nPlease note: \n\nThe content is not about showing or promoting sexually explicit media\, and nor is it presumed (or a prerequisite of the class) that a teen has already seen p*rn\, had any sexual experience\, or received any prior sex education classes.\nWhile the course aims to teach teens to be critical consumers of any media it does not expect or assume that everyone will choose to consume it at some point.\nSexually explicit media is not shown in any session.\nPermission forms from parents/carers must be completed prior to the course commencing.\n\nThe workshop is based on “The Truth About P*rnography” which is a multi session ‘P*rn Literacy’ course originally developed in 2019 by Dr Emily Rothman and her team. \nThe curriculum was developed with the intention that talking about something that will spark teens’ interest (aka P*rn) will create an atmosphere of openness and readiness in the teens to talk about the essential topics of consent\, healthy relating\, safety\, respect as well as fostering an attitude of critical thinking around p*rn. \nThis “Pixels and Perspectives” workshop will cover: \n\nNorms relating to violence and double standards\nThe teen brain and how p*rn use can become compulsive\nHealthy intimacy\nP*rn as not reality\nCommercial sexual exploitation\nRevenge p*rnography and sexual selfies\nPeers and p*rn use\n\nThe workshop includes pizza and is delivered twice.
