A note from John, Support Worker/Counsellor/Group Facilitator for men and teenage boys – Waves of Kindness

My journey of study and work has brought me to a place where I now focus on issues facing men and teenage boys.

From years of youth work and counselling children and men with experiences of domestic abuse, I see how males generally face challenges in understanding how to negotiate some facets of life and intimate relationships. My research tells me that a lot of the issues are relational and situational, and early support can make a difference and save a lot of unnecessary damage for everyone.

Plus, in my roles as a counsellor with young dads and with families where loved ones have problematic substance use, there is a real need to seek understanding and negotiate our responses to support healthy boundaries.

One of the most significant trainings I witnessed is ‘Rites of Passage’ work with fathers and teenage sons. This connection in that stage of life builds positive changes for how dads and sons relate. Plus, it brings respectful understanding of women and feminine energy and what helps to create healthy relationships.

In my work as a relationship counsellor, I see how little preparation we get growing up and socially, to know how to manage intimacy and healthy connection with others.

I am available for individual counselling support in Pomona, Cooroy, and Noosaville on Thursdays by appointment and I will develop groups for men who want to explore where we stand in this everchanging world.
